Trevor Herbert
Biography
Trevor Herbert was born in Cwmparc, Wales and was introduced to music in a local brass band. He was educated at St Luke's College, Exeter and the Royal College of Music, London where he was a foundation scholar. Trevor worked as a trombone player in London for a number of years. He has played with most British symphony and opera orchestras and also specialised in period performance with ensembles such as Musica Reservata and the Taverner Players, with whom he has made a number of recordings. Trevor was also a member of the virtuoso brass group the Wallace Collection and was especially involved in that ensemble's period performances of nineteenth-century music.
Trevor is currently professor of music at The Open University of the United Kingdom. He has written and edited many books and articles and has contributed to major reference works such as New Grove II, The Encyclopaedia of Popular Music of the World and The New Dictionary of National Biography. Trevor also broadcasts frequently on BBC radio and television.
