Mark Lockheart
Biography
Mark Lockheart was born in Hampshire in 1961. During the 1980's he toured and recorded throughout the USA and Europe with the big band Loose Tubes.
In 1992 he formed the Perfect Houseplants. The band went on to record six albums and has collaborated with artists such as the Orlando Consort, the baroque violinist Andrew Manze and more recently the recorder virtuoso Pamela Thorby. In 1998 the band represented the BBC at the European Broadcasting Union in Vienna and has recorded concerts for BBC Radio 3.
Mark has performed at many international festivals including Berlin, Molde and Willisau. He has recorded with jazz, folk and pop artists, including June Tabor, Billy Jenkins, Stereolab, Robert Wyatt, Anja Garbarek and Radiohead.
As a composer he has received the Peter Whittingham Award and his album Through Rose-Coloured Glasses was voted one of the top ten albums of 1998 by Time Out. Mark has received commissions from both the Cheltenham and Birmingham jazz festivals.
As both a commercial writer and session musician Mark has composed library music and music for BBC Drama and Radio 4. He has worked with Mike Gibbs and Oscar winning composer Steven Warbeck.
Mark teaches at Trinity College of Music, London and Middlesex University as well as giving masterclasses at the Royal Academy of Music, London.
