Simon Bainbridge
Biography
b. 1952 London. Studied at the Royal College of Music with John Lambert; subsequently with Gunther Schüller at Tanglewood. Fellowships and awards include the University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Ad ora incerta, a song cycle for mezzo-soprano, bassoon and orchestra based on texts by Primo Levi, and the Gemini Fellowship from the Worshipful Company of Musicians. Currently Head of Composition at the Royal Academy of Music. Works widely performed, recorded and broadcast. International commissions include music for orchestra, mixed ensembles (with and without voice), choral and solo instrumental works.
