Beat Furrer
Biography
b. 1954 Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Now lives near Vienna, having taken Austrian citizenship. Studied composition at Vienna Music Academy with Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and conducting with Otmar Suitner. Plays piano. Founder of instrumental ensemble Klangforum Wien. Teaches composition at Graz Music Academy. Has been featured composer at European festivals, including Salzburg and Lucerne. Winner of The Young Generation in Europe Prize, 1984, and Music Prize of the City of Vienna, 2003. Works recorded on various labels. Output includes opera, works for orchestra and chorus as well as chamber and instrumental music.
