Andrew Manze

Biography

Andrew Manze specialises in repertoire from 1610 to 1830 and as a conductor he is increasingly in demand amongst modern instrument orchestras. Andrew also teaches, writes and broadcasts about many aspects of early music.

In 1996 he became associate director of The Academy of Ancient Music and from June 2003 he will be the artistic director of The English Concert.

Andrew is also active as a conductor in large scale oratorio, symphonic repertoire and with chamber orchestras. He is artist in residence at the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

As a chamber musician, Andrew continues to perform 17th and 18th century violin repertoire. He records exclusively for Harmonia Mundi USA and has produced many CD's that have subsequently been awarded international prizes, including Gramophone, Edison and Cannes Classical Awards.

Recent recordings in collaboration with Richard Egarr include Pandolfi's sonatas (Gramophone Award) and the complete sonatas of Handel, which was nominated for a 2003 Grammy Award as well as entering the US Billboard Charts.
