Julian Grant

Biography

b. 1960 London. Studied composition with Derek Bourgeois and Robert Saxton. From 1996 to 2002 lived in Hong Kong and Japan, working as a radio presenter, and with appointments at Hong Kong University and the Academy for the Performing Arts. Director of Music at St Paul's Girls' School, London, since 2002. Has written several operas, including The Queen of Sheba's Legs (English National Opera), A Family Affair (Almeida Opera) and Heroes Don't Dance (Royal Opera); won the 1988 National Opera Association of America's biennial chamber opera competition for The Skin Drum. Output also includes orchestral, chamber, vocal and instrumental music.
