Elena Langer
Biography
b. 1974 Moscow. Now lives in London. Began playing piano at age of 6 and composing aged 12. Studied at Gnessin Music College and Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory; later, in London, at the Royal College of Music. Currently completing PhD at the Royal Academy of Music. Principal teachers of composition include Yuri Vorontsov, Julian Anderson and Simon Bainbridge; has also studied with Sofia Gubaidulina, Jonathan Harvey and Jo Kondo. Jerwood Composer-in-Association with the Almeida Theatre, London, since 2002. Works have been performed and broadcast in Europe, and recorded on various labels. Output includes opera, works for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, voice and multimedia.
