John White

Biography

b. 1936 Berlin. Lives in London. Studied at the Royal College of Music. Principal composition teachers were Elisabeth Lutyens, Humphrey Searle and Bernard Stevens. Plays piano, organ, trombone and tuba. Has written 143 piano sonatas and much music for theatre, including for the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre. Has held teaching
appointments at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music, and at universities in Australia, Austria, South Africa and the USA.
Currently Head of Music at the Drama Centre, London. Output includes opera, music for ballet and theatre, and works for orchestra, chamber and vocal ensembles, and solo instruments.
