Raymond Yiu

Biography

b. 1973 Hong Kong. Now lives in the UK. Began piano lessons aged four and started composing as a teenager. Studied electrical and electronic engineering at Imperial College, London. Is largely self-taught as composer, though received advice from Julian Anderson, Lukas Foss, David Matthews, David Sawer and Graham Williams. Also active as jazz pianist. Works have been broadcast and performed at international festivals in the UK and Europe. Recipient of SPNM's George Butterworth Award 2003 and nominee for British Composer Awards 2004. Output includes opera, works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, voice and music for dance.
