Richard Michael

Biography

Richard is one of the few Scots to specialise in improvisation in all genres. He studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow for three years as well as playing jazz in many venues around Aberdeen.

He is head of music at Beath School in Cowdenbeath, director of Fife Youth Jazz Orchestra since its inception in 1976 and organist in Abbotshall Church in Kirkaldy. Richard has given jazz workshops all around the UK and in Europe. Recently he promoted the Associated Board's jazz piano syllabus in South East Asia and Singapore.

As well as being a pianist, Richard is also a composer and his recent work includes writing ten big band charts for a Play Station 2 game on Tom and Jerry.
