Christopher Hogwood
Biography
Christopher Hogwood conducts repertoire from the baroque to contemporary. Since founding The Academy of Ancient Music in 1973, Christopher has worked to bring together musicology and performance. With many of his editorial projects he covers the ground from initial stages through to performance or recording. Recent editorial work has included the Urtext edition of Vivaldi's L'Estro Armonico which he toured in Italy and recorded for Chandos Records. Die Schöne Melusine, the first in his new edition of eight of Mendelssohn's concert overtures, will also be heard on the concert platform.
Christopher's writing have been translated into many languages and include articles and books on diverse topics such as eighteenth century keyboard music and the trio sonata to biographical studies of Handel, Mozart and Haydn. He also Honorary Professor of Music at the University of Cambridge and visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music, London as well as teaching regularly at Harvard University.
