Peteris Plakidis
Biography
Peteris Plakidis was born in 1947 in Riga, Latvia. He studied at E. Darzins special music school with composer Gederts Ramans and later with Professor V. Utkins at Jazeps Vitols Music Academy of Latvia, where he now teaches composition and has been a professor since 1991.
Peteris is also active as a professional pianist and has played the solo part in his own concerto for orchestra and piano. He performs regularly in the Transatlantic Trio with clarinet and cello. Peteris was music director of the Latvian National Theatre from 1969 until 1974 and has had works performed at numerous international festivals.
His compositions include music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, chorus, voice and solo instruments.
