Clara Taylor
Biography
Clara Taylor, LRAM ARAM FRSA, was appointed Chief Examiner to the Associated Board in 1997. As a professor at the Royal Academy of Music and also a private teacher for over 20 years, the span of her experience is unusually wide, from beginners to those embarking upon a professional career.
Clara studied at the RAM and began her career as an accompanist, giving concerts in many parts of the world, including frequent recitals at the major London concert halls.
Teaching now forms the main practical part of her work, which includes masterclasses and adjudicating.
In the inaugural year of the CT ABRSM, the Associated Board’s Professional Development Course for Instrumental and Singing Teachers, Clara was involved as a mentor and still retains close links with the course.
Since her appointment as Chief Examiner, Clara has visited the USA, the Far East and New Zealand, giving seminars and workshops for teachers. These meetings increase understanding of the Board’s work and reinforce our view that teachers and examiners are all working towards a common goal - the improvement in quality of instrumental playing and singing worldwide and the encouragement of the potential in all pupils.
