ABRSM Publishing launches Spectrum 4
The Associated Board launched its latest addition to the Spectrum series, Spectrum 4, on Monday 21st November at the Royal Academy of Music. This, the most ambitious Spectrum album so far, includes pieces by 66 internationally recognised composers, many of whom have contributed to one or more of the previous Spectrum titles.
Spectrum 4 is an album of piano music aimed at pianists of all ages and abilities, the pieces ranging in standard from Grade 1 to Grade 4. This volume is an essential introduction to music of today and includes five pieces with accompanying soundtracks, which are provided on CD with this book.
Many of the composers writing for Spectrum 4 were present at the launch, as was Thalia Myers, pianist and teacher behind the Spectrum series. ABRSM Publishing and Thalia Myers established the highly successful Spectrum series in 1996. The aim of the series is to commission some of the finest composers to write pieces of modest length and difficulty, while preserving the essential characteristics of their compositional style.
The launch featured several fine pianists performing 38 of the 66 works from Spectrum 4. This was followed by a lively discussion led by Leslie East, Director of Publishing at ABRSM.
