Spectrum for Clarinet

ABRSM Publishing announces SPECTRUM for CLARINET,
a collection of 16 new pieces for clarinet and piano,
compiled by clarinettist Ian Mitchell.

SPECTRUM for CLARINET is the sixth volume in the highly successful award-winning SPECTRUM series. There have so far been four albums for piano and one for cello.

The SPECTRUM series has so far involved the commissioning of 189 pieces from 127 composers from 42 countries.

The main purpose of the SPECTRUM series is to create a repertoire of new music for amateur and professional players; composers were commissioned to write short pieces with carefully-graded technical demands, at the same time preserving the essential characteristics of their compositional style.

The clarinet book covers technical demands ranging in standard from grades 1 to 8 and presents a colourful collection of pieces that are satisfying to play and offer interesting and stimulating challenges to performers. The book includes a CD of all 16 pieces performed by Ian Mitchell and Thalia Myers, pianist, teacher and instigator of SPECTRUM.

Contributing composers to SPECTRUM for CLARINET include international names such as Mark-Anthony Turnage, Nicola LeFanu, Robert Saxton, Elena Firsova and Libby Larsen.

The album was launched at the Clarinet and Saxophone Society's annual conference on 29 October 2006 where performances of pieces from the album were premiered by Ian Mitchell, clarinet students from the Royal College of Music Junior Department and Thalia Myers.
