Malcolm Miles
Biography
Born in 1964, Malcolm Miles lives in his home town of Colchester, Essex. He studied at City of Leeds College of Music and later at Guildhall Schol of Music and Drama, London.
Malcolm has built up a wide range of experience in the field of jazz education. He teaches regularly on the Fife and the Guildhall summer jazz courses and since 1993 has been teaching jazz saxophone at Junior Guildhall. More recently Malcolm has begun teaching jazz arranging, aural and improvisation techniques to senior students at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He also works at Colchester Institute where he directs the Jazz Orchestra, teaches saxophone and lectures in jazz harmony and arranging. He is a qualified Guildhall music examiner and is involved in syllabus development work for the Initial Studies department.
Additionally, Malcolm works for Essex Music Services, teaching saxophone in schools in the Colchester area.
As a composer, Malcolm has works published by Stainer & Bell, Chesters and ABRSM. In 1989 he won the composition prize for the BBC Rehearsal Band competition.
As a performer, Malcolm has built up many years of experience as a freelance jazz and commercial musician and has a handful of recordings to his credit.
