Spectrum for String Quartet is the seventh volume in the award-winning Spectrum series, and the first volume of string quartet music to be published by ABRSM Publishing.
The volume contains three string quartets commissioned by the London String Quartet Foundation as part of its mission to encourage the art of string quartet playing among the young.
The three composers – Alun Hoddinott, David Gorton and Graham Fitkin – are of widely different backgrounds and experience and have written works of about eight minutes duration for players of Associated Board Grade 8 standard.
The London String Quartet Foundation presented the premiere of Spectrum for String Quartet performed by the Sacconi String Quartet on 11 March 2008 at the Wigmore Hall. There will also be a coaching day at 5.00pm on 26 April when the Sacconi will coach three young quartets on the new pieces, also at the Wigmore.
