Mike Sheppard

Biography

Mike Sheppard (b.1958) has run two careers in parallel for most of his working life. On the one hand he has been a professional trombonist, composer and arranger covering a wide spectrum of music. Whilst studying compostion and contemporary music ast Southampton University he was also a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. This diversity of musical styles continued as he found himself working as arranger and producer in music as diverse as pop, jazz and contemporary opera. As a composer he has had seven works commercially recorded and numerous broadcasts on TV and radio.

The other half of his parallel career has been in music publishing. Before attending university he studied as an apprentice music engraver; since graduating he has worked in a variety of editorial positions, culminating in his appointment in 1991 as Managing Editor of one of Europe’s largest music publishers.

In 1998 he founded Artemis Music, a music production and publishing company created to champion new music in film and TV.

In 1999 he was commissioning editor, composer and co-author of Jazz Works for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
