Mark Nightingale
Biography
Mark Nightingale was born in 1967. He began playing at the age of nine and his prodigious talent became widely recognised when he won the coveted Don Lusher Award at the age of fifteen. A year later he was recruited as lead trombonist into the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. During this period he began composing and arranging and quickly became regarded as one of NYJO’s most creative and original writers. He also formed and lead the five trombone group ‘Bone Structure’ producing their debut album in 1988, which was enthusiastically released on Humphrey Lyttelton’s own label.
Since graduating from Trinity College of Music, Mark Nightingale has firmly established himself on the international jazz scene. He has worked alongside some of the world’s greatest jazz musicians incuding Clark Terry, Lee Konitz, James Morrison, Louis Bellson and George Shearing; and with larger ensembles including the Stan Tracey Big Band, the Kenny Wheeler Big Band and the Colin Towns Mask Orchestra. He is firmly ensconsed on the international jazz circuit touring Europe, America and the Far East.
As a composer, Mark has been commissioned by James Morrison, the BBC Radio Big Band and the Dankworth Generation Big Band. He has also produced an instrumental study series which includes two CDs in playalong format- 20 Jazz Etudes and Multiplicity along withTipping the Scales and Easy Jazzy Tudes published by Warwick Music.
