Julian Anderson

Biography

b. 1967 London. Began composing at age of eleven. Studied composition with John Lambert privately, then at the Royal College of Music; subsequently with Tristan Murail in Paris and Alexander Goehr in Cambridge. Has written orchestral music and works for chamber, vocal and instrumental ensembles as well as solo piano. Won 1992 Royal Philharmonic Society’s Prize for Young Composers. Teaches composition at the Royal College of Music and is active as broadcaster and writer on music. His orchestral work ‘The Stations of the Sun’ was commissioned for and received its world première at the 1998 BBC Proms.
