Haflidi Hallgrímsson

Biography

b. 1941 Akureyri, Iceland. Began playing cello at age of ten. Studied in Reykjavík, at Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and in London with Derek Simpson at Royal Academy of Music. Subsequently, received composition lessons from Alan Bush and Peter Maxwell Davies. Lives in Scotland since appointment as principal cellist with Scottish Chamber Orchestra, from which he resigned in 1983 in order to devote his time to composing. Output includes music theatre, and works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, voice and solo instruments.
