Peter Maxwell Davies
Biography
b. 1934 Salford, Greater Manchester, England. Lives in Orkney Islands. Started composing as a child. Studied at Royal Manchester College of
Music and Manchester University, and later with Goffredo Petrassi and Roger Sessions. Led his own performing ensemble The Fires of London 1967-87;
is active internationally as a conductor. Numerous awards, honours and appointments including Master of the Queen's Music, 2004. Music is
performed and broadcast throughout the world, and recorded on many labels. Output of over 300 works includes opera and music for orchestra,
chorus, chamber ensembles and voice as well as works for children to perform.
