Julian Yu
Biography
b. 1957 Beijing, China. Has lived in Australia since 1985. Wrote his first composition, a one-act Peking opera, at age of twelve. Studied at Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing, where he later taught. Further studies at Tokyo College of Music under
Joji Yuasa and with Hans Werner Henze and Oliver Knussen at Tanglewood, where he was awarded the Koussevitzky composition prize. Output includes opera, music for orchestra, chamber ensembles, chorus, voice and solo instruments. While in China he also wrote for dance, film and theatre.
